    Rippin' Shame

    It's tough to be a victim of your impulses. You might see it as a room full of furniture, but for your best friend...it looks like a giant chew toy. #visualbanter #inktober #inktober2020 #pen #ink #illustration #rip #tear #dog #couch #comic #day23

    Add A Ladle of 'Weird'

Snurg is one of my recurring characters. He is one of the staple of my "big nosed" monster characters that I draw when I am at a loss of what to draw. He's even had a role in a comic I wrote and drew about 20 comics of known as "The Entrance." I wrote this on and off both while working for my father and also when I worked at a "call center." both of which happened in the late nineties. Here, Snurg is helping me answer the prompt "chef." #visualbanter #inktober2020 #inktober

    Pleasant...Dreams

When I was a teenager, my Sunday nights were spent listening to Mystery theater on the radio. I didn't have a TV officially in my room, and needed something to take my mind off of the business of falling asleep, and that was the port in the storm, so to speak. The thing about the imagination is it can use shows like this to magnify and conjure the imagination, similar to what is happening to the boy in this picture. #visualbanter #inktober #inktober2020 #pen #ink #digital

    Studying The Ocean's Depths

    Right after Dizzy, the prompt was "coral" so I drew this...and wanted to make it an odd scale...so I added the divers who were a lot smaller. #visualbanter #inktober #inktober2020 #digitalart #day21 #coral #pen #ink #digitalart #illustration

Dizzy Gillespie 2: Even More Dizzy

This is my second go at "Dizzy." This time I opted for a more exaggerated approach to the well known musician. I made his horn and body smaller and exaggerated his most notable feature. I wish I had made his face wider...looking at it now...but enjoyed the process nonetheless. #visualbanter #day19 #dizzy #inktober #inktober2020 #pen #ink #whimsical #comic #illustration #digitalart

    Breaking A Mighty Wind

This Inktober drawing, as you might have guessed, is a cartoon. The prompt was "storm" and what better storm than a tornado, or in this guy's case, what worse storm. I am also harkening back to two movies with this drawing, "Twister" and "The Wizard of Oz." #inktober #inktober2020 #visualbanter #storm #twister #wizardofoz #windy #digitalart #ink #pen

    Armor Dillo

Day 14 of Inktober's prompt was "Armor." For this one, I decided to draw a vintage 1930's armadillo. His exoskeleton looks like armor, and so, naturally, that was the "armor" of armadillo. Sometimes the answers are very simplistic and devoid of much in the way of complex thinking. #visualbanter #inktober #inktober2020 #day14 #armadillo #vintage #cartoon #illustration #1930's #armor #digitalart #comic

..On a Horse with No Name

That's one big sand bunker. The other option for this drawing would have been to draw the Dunes casino in Las Vegas, The obvious option was to draw a giant sandworm, but that's probably been done way too often if you manage to scroll through twitter looking for different answers to the #dune. I won't say I wasn't tempted to do that myself, but opted instead of some line work regarding the dunes. I wanted to convey the idea of contour and shadow. #visualbanter #inktober #i

    More Slippery Than...

This one, I had difficulty with. At first, I was going to make this a comic. It was going to show four things: A banana peel, a wet bar of soap, a penguin, and a politician. Ultimately, I discarded this idea and went with my backup...showing an actual Otter Politician. #visualbanter #pen #ink #inktober #inktober2020 #slippery #day12 #otter #politician #otto #vote

    It Oozes!

At first I thought of drawing something truly disgusting, like someone eating a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich with his mouth open. But how would I convey the idea of mayonnaise? How would I convey the idea of an open mouth during the whole process of mastication? These are the situations that afflict an artist, and so I decided to go with making a disgusting illustration that was heavy-handed. #visualbanter #inktober2020 #inktober #day11 #disgusting #ooze #trash #f

    Hope or Rogers?

This is for the Inktober Day 10 Challenge entitled "Hope." I'm not going to wax political right now other than to say, we could use a little HOPE right now. I'd love to hear how this classic comedian would negotiate the troubled waters of our current polarized culture. I imagine he would take it on with a mixture of incredulity and dignity. The real comedian to be puzzled about would be Don Rickles. I think Rickles would be, in the parlance of our time, "off the chain." I'

    Throwing it Al Away

This is for day 9 of Inktober responding to the visual prompt "throw." s Originally, I had baseball players throwing balls, ideas of throw rugs, pillows, and a boxer laying in the ring as his trainer threw in the towel, but for some reason a little girl captivated my attention. In the original picture, she was throwing a soccer ball, or in the Spanish parlance, "un futbol." The character design for the carving is a familiar face. #visualbanter #inktober #inktober2020 #thr

    You Are Essential

I don’t want to argue with the powers that be; be they local, state, or the federal government, but "we" are essential. Not everyone — there are some who aren’t. Like the career criminal, or the publicist, or that guy who bought $75k in hand sanitizer. I think what they mean when they say only “essential” businesses and such should remain open is they mean “baseline.” There is a difference. Ask someone who is a professional athlete if what they do is essential, and they

    No Going Back

My truck was towed away today—for good. It’s been on it’s last legs for a year now. The engine sounded like a rusty laugh. Recently, I had the brakes done, thinking it would last longer than it did. Then, the transmission went. Thinking about it, the transmission has been on a downward slide for a few years.

A couple weeks ago it could no longer go in reverse. I found this out after a night of karaoke and I couldn’t back out of my parking spot. At some point I had to thr
