Thanksgiving Wishes

I’ve wanted to be an artist all my life, probably as long as some have wanted to be scientists, or professional baseball players. I’ve gone off in other directions as well, I’ve wanted to be a musician, an actor, a writer/novelist, but in the end, I would return to art. The original plan for my life was to run two years at a small liberal arts college in the deep south and then transfer to art school. Ultimately, I stuck with English, but my electives were mainly filled with art and other creative interests.

Growing up, I read the Saturday morning comics, saw the Peanuts specials throughout the holiday seasons and I thought to myself “That’s what I want to do.” While I should have been memorizing my times tables, studying science, I spent inordinate amounts of time studying cartoon strips and trying to figure out and replicate their styles.

I would look at reference books of old Peanuts cartoons, my parents got me a pet rock with Snoopy painted on it. I had Charlie Brown pajamas, bedspreads, comforters, and all of my greeting cards were “Peanuts” based. In some ways, my childhood was run on Charlie Brown and the gang. And so here I am in 2020 occasionally sharing some of what I am working on, like this Thanksgiving card idea.I wish you well as Thanksgiving approaches.
